About the course

Car Mechanic is a free training course for women as part of the OnTrack program of the Reskilling Ukraine project.

This course is designed to train future professionals in the field of car maintenance and repair. The curriculum covers the fundamental knowledge of the structure, principles of operation, and performance characteristics of modern vehicles.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to work as a mechanic's assistant, working your way up to a vehicle mechanic.

• Certificate of the National Transport University “Fundamentals of Car Construction” (120 hours);

• a certificate of completion from Reskilling Ukraine.

You are a woman, 18 years old or older

You plan to develop your profession and work as a car mechanic

Basic technical knowledge, education or hobbies will be an advantage

How the training takes place

Theoretical part

2 weeks

‍Place: National Transport University, Kyiv

Theoretical training covers the main components and assemblies of vehicles: from the engine and transmission to steering and braking systems. The emphasis is on studying both traditional and advanced engineering solutions that meet modern European requirements.

The educational process is organized into two content modules, including lectures, laboratory work, and independent work of students. Considerable attention is paid to practical aspects - laboratory and practical classes allow not only to consolidate theoretical knowledge, but also to form primary professional skills, for example, in the selection of systems or vehicle components for specific operating conditions.‍

Separate topics are dedicated to promising technologies such as electronic braking systems, all-wheel steering, adjustable suspensions, continuously variable transmissions, aluminum body structures, etc. This ensures the relevance of the program in view of the rapid development of the automotive industry and the growing requirements for environmental friendliness, efficiency and safety of transport.

Practical part

1 week

The practical training block includes visits to the service stations of the course partner companies, including Scania Ukraine, Ukrauto Group, etc. Training in the truck segment takes place at the Scania Ukraine service station. The cars used for practical training of theoretical modules include Toyota, Skoda, Renault, Opel, KIA, and Chevrolet.

The training ends with a one-week internship at a company as a car mechanic's assistant (optional).

Stages of the course

Registration

You apply online by filling out a questionnaire. Recruiters review it for compliance with the requirements. As a result, you receive either a rejection letter or an invitation to an interview.

Passing the entrance test

To determine your basic technical knowledge to enter the profession

Interview

You choose the time, date, and platform for the video interview, and meet with the recruiter. You receive a letter with the result of the conversation. If you are accepted, you will receive an invitation to study and a list of required documents.

You will learn all the details of the training, plan your arrival at the venue, and communicate with the group coordinator

Passing the exam

You take a practical driving test at a traffic police registration and examination department in accordance with Ukrainian law (you have two attempts). If you pass the exam successfully, you receive a driver's license for the category you have chosen.

Certificate

We issue you a certificate of completion of the retraining course and a new profession.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Do you offer employment after the program? Is it mandatory?

Reskilling Ukraine does not employ graduates of the programs. However, we introduce participants to various employers who are looking for female drivers to join their teams, which makes it easier to find a job after obtaining a category C driver's license. In addition, we send out a weekly newsletter of current vacancies of our employer partners to ensure that all the most relevant opportunities are available to the program graduates.

Do I need to have a driver's license for this course?

No, there is no such requirement for candidates for the Solar Power Plant Installer course.

Can I participate if I am permanently residing abroad?

The OnTrack program is designed and implemented for women living in Ukraine.

Can I take the training in my city?

You can be from any region of Ukraine, but please note that the training camp for this course is located in Kyiv. We provide you with hotel accommodation and three meals a day for the duration of your training. This course is not currently available in other cities.
